Steve is an integral part of The Shakedown and is one of the band's founders. He is extremely modest with what he brings to the band and turns up to practices with an arrangement he's just 'knocked together, but it's not very good'.

He has an intricate and sometimes understated style which is a complete contrast to Kenji's aggressive tones. The two players complement and juxtapose each other beautifully, especially in the freedom of live situations.

Steve is the guru of improvisation in the band and his playing is dictated by his own personal mood that evening. All jazz musicians have defaults and tools in their toolbox to call upon whilst improvising to keep fluency in their playing...however you have to listen to Steve for a long, long time though to hear any of his reappear. He is a gifted improviser.
