Paul Bytheway

Paul is the frontman of the band and has a subtle and understated style. Influenced by the sound of other understated singers like Chet Baker and Mel Torme he does however retain a sound unique to him.

Paul is responsible for the formation of the band and choosing the songs to cover. He used to work in a record shop and so has eclectic music tastes and a wealth of musical knowledge. Paul is definitely the man to have on your pub music quiz team!

A late developer with his voice, he only realised he could sing at 24 and is only 29 now. Since then he has hovered around the Jazz standards before realising the link in his voice between Rock, Pop and Jazz. The Shakedown is his experiment to bring fans of all three genres to a middle ground

Paul actually started his music journey much earlier playing organ in blues bands and guitar/bass in funk and soul bands. This background has cemented his position in the band as another musician and encourages the vocal to sit within the music..not on top of it.

His laid back style crosses over into his personality but is still very driven with everything he does. Paul was a founder member of the band with Andrzej and Steve and he originally used a Mel Torme album with Marty Paich as an idea of how the band could eventually sound, but with Rock songs....
