Nick is the double bass player in the band and has an extremely fat tone which is really driven, this sound forms the backbone of The Shakedown's energetic vibe. Nick is well known as an acoustic upright player who likes to take improvised solos, not an easy task on such a difficult instrument.

Nick used to be a fan of rock and guitar based music (and secretly still is) and so is very in touch with the origins of the rock songs chosen. He has an eclectic taste in music an appreciates a wide spectrum of sounds.

Nick loves to talk about his equipment. In fact he loves nothing more than curling up in front of the TV with a glass of wine and a book about double bass string gauges. If you start talking to him about the oil he uses on the wood on his bass..forget about it.... (n.b Nick is soon to leave the Shakedown after reading this paragraph...new bass player biog to appear here soon)

Nick's bass playing is very much in demand and he is involved in projects such as The Magic Hat Ensemble and Aim. He has a dry wit that cuts through any situation. He often jokes 'not being funny lads but I was amazing then....' The band think he's joking.

A few years ago Nick went off the Manchester Jazz scene and read the book 'Effortless Mastery' by Kenny Werner and as Andrzej says 'He came back sounding like Ray Brown...I thought he was a bit crap before'.
