For a Jazz band to turn up to a venue they are not booked to play at and play Jazz music until it offends people....and to get some sort of asbo for the pleasure.
Not as easy as it sounds, it takes..erm..well hardly any planning but it does take a fair bit of bottle when you get there. Most people don’t get offended by Jazz music too so this makes it slightly more challenging. There has only really been one full attempt at a Jazzbo by the band so far and it happened in Birmingham’s public library on a busy Saturday afternoon in 2008. This happened during the Birmingham Intl Jazz festival, there was then another attempt next year with Steve on Ukulele in a local petrol station and bars in the city centre. This second attempt wasn’t filmed though so doesn’t really count....and Andrzej was playing Stylophone..
The band’s favourite part was when they claimed there was live music on every floor, the woman rather rudely replied ‘that’s outside’, they had just walked past the music outside. Straight after the first Jazzbo Paul and Dave Taylor (leading member of the film crew, the guy with the very broad west midlands twang on the very start of the video) pretty much ran out of the library only to be stopped by a rather angry/confused security guard. He asked what was going on, Paul then proceeded to lie through his teeth claiming he thought the band were booked to play...in a crowded....yet completely silent public library. Amazingly the guy seemed to buy this completely and let them go...apologising for any confusion.
Future hits are planned on big corporations such as Marks and Spencer’s. There are 6 of the band, I’m sure there won’t be a one on one scenario with security guards so they will definitely get to the end of the song with at least some of the members.....
